Physicians may prescribe MRI scans to diagnose musculoskeletal diseases, brain tumors, heart problems, diseases of the liver, abdomen and pelvis, breast cancer, spine disorders, blockage in blood vessels, and abnormalities of the eye and neck. An MRI scan is also useful in evaluating injuries to the shoulders, elbow, hip, knee and ankle. The scanning process will take about 20 to 30 minutes.
