Neck Injuries

Neck Injuries

Neck and back injuries can vary significantly in severity and duration. They may range from slight soft tissue injuries to severe spine and nerve complications. A leading healthcare center, based in Brooklyn, New York, HealthQuest provides customized treatments for neck injuries, with focus on quick pain relief and discomfort and restoring range of motion, flexibility and functionality.

Common neck injuries include pinched nerve (cervical radiculopathy), neck sprain, neck strain, and herniated disc. Also known as whiplash, neck sprain or strain is caused by damage to the muscle or the tendons, bands of tissue that connect muscles to bones.

Symptoms of the condition include pain in the neck area, shoulders, arms, and hands, headaches, numbness or weakness in arms and hands, muscle spasms in the neck and reduced range of motion in the neck.

Neck Injury

Experienced physicians at our rehabilitation center will perform a thorough examination of the head, neck and arms to determine the range and degree of motion, tenderness in the neck, shoulders or back, reflexes, strength and sensation in your limbs. X-rays, CT and MRI scans, and other tests may be used to diagnose neck strain and rule out other problems.

Neck Pain Treatment

Our non-surgical interventions aim at controlling pain, restoring normal range of motion in neck and helping patients return to normal activities quickly. A typical neck injury treatment plan may include the following:

  • Pain relief medication
    • Acetaminophen
    • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
    • Muscle relaxants
  • Physical therapy: This involves modalities to strengthen the muscles, improve posture, and restore normal movement such as
    • Exercises and massage
    • Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS)
    • Heat or ice application
    • Electrotherapy
  • Chiropractic care: Chiropractic manipulation of the neck and thoracic joints reduces stiffness, improves mobility, and increases range of motion.

To help patients with chronic neck pain, our physicians use the advanced Game Ready cold therapy system. Its active pneumatic (air) compression relieves swelling and stimulates the flow of oxygen-rich blood to promote healing.
